At Issue
BGCE provided lighting design and electrical distribution for a multi-use recreational facility. This facility has various recreational spaces including three pool environments, a typical lap pool, a therapy pool and a family pool. These pools have specific lighting requirements for both safety and function. A large gymnasium with a running track above also has its lighting challenges due to the various functions within the space. The facility also includes a climbing wall, large meeting rooms, activity areas, two racquetball courts, locker rooms, and administrative office spaces.

BGCE's Work
- The lighting systems in the pool areas are designed to meet the requirements of the Owner regarding lighting levels, while also providing illumination to minimize glare on the pool surface
- Skylights were utilized in the gymnasium, pool environment, and main entry gallery. The lighting system includes automatic daylight sensors to extinguish fixtures during hours in which natural lighting provides adequate illumination levels
- An indirect lighting scenario was utilized in the gymnasium to reduce the direct glare caused by looking directly up into the bottom of a direct light fixture when playing volleyball or basketball
- The various activity spaces have decorative lighting in addition to the functional lighting to produce a functional as well as aesthetically pleasing environment

Client Benefits
- Lighting solutions require minimal maintenance
- Lighting solutions enhance occupant safety and comfort
- Lighting solutions maximize daylighting opportunities, increasing electrical operating efficiency
- Fixture selections contribute to overall ambience
- Fixture selections respond to functional requirements and provide life-cycle value
- Intricate architectural solutions were preserved through the lighting and electrical system designs
