At Issue
Morter Aker Architects and the Eagle County Government approached Beaudin Ganze to design a cost effective, yet comfortable heating and cooling system for their new annex office building. The narrow-shaped building, with an east-west orientation resulted in heating and cooling requirements that varied widely between its northern and southern exposures, yet were being serviced by a single roof-top unit.

BGCE's Work
BGCE designed two separate roof-top units to divide and isolate the HVAC load requirements of the respective building halves, and to eliminate counter-efficiencies that were occurring in the single unit. A variable air and variable volume system (VVT) provided further zone control of the disparate needs of each half. BGCE situated the new units within elements of the roof-top architecture which provided screening of the units from both the interstate and the main drive.

Client Benefits
- Building offers space comfort superior to any other building they operate
- Zone control of HVAC needs produced increased operating efficiencies and energy savings over the course of the building life
- VVT system offers total occupant control throughout each zone
