At Issue
Eagle County's western region school-age population was growing by leaps and bounds. New schools were needed to accommodate the increase in students. The county passed a bond issue to fund the construction of two new elementaries, Brush Creek and Red Hill, in Eagle and Gypsum, respectively, and a new middle school, Gypsum Creek, in Gypsum. The school district's primary objective was to provide classroom space that would serve existing and the forecasted growth in student population. In order to achieve the massive classroom build out, the budget allocation to building systems, operations, and maintenance was tight, and, therefore, required solutions that were extremely cost conscious and, yet, easy to maintain and operate.

BGCE's Work
•HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for all three schools
•Specialty piping systems at the middle school, including dust collection in the shop areas; air, vacuum and gas piping, and acid piping and dilution basins for science class laboratories
•Direct Digital Control System (DDC) System integrated among the new and existing schools within the districts to allow control from the central maintenance office.

Client Benefits
•HVAC systems provide occupant comfort throughout the extreme range of temperatures typical of the area.
•Specialty systems reinforce safety measures necessary to combat the inherent dangers in industrial and science areas.
•Ease of operation from one central location, thus reducing operation costs.
•System selection provided for ease of maintenance, thus containing maintenance costs over system life.
•Well planned and budgeted systems contributed to achievement of overall goal of increasing student capacity within the district to the highest possible return on the budget.
