At Issue
This recently completed recreation center implemented many energy-saving measures as part of an incentive program offered by the local utility company. Energy savings resulting from special lighting strategies was a particular focus of design. Daylight sensors were provided in all spaces of the facility in order to take advantage of special window glazing and to allow, for example, half of all gymnasium light fixtures to be turned off through peak daylight hours. Occupancy sensors were provided in all bathrooms, offices and multi-purpose rooms to ensure that lights would be off when the spaces were not in use. Linear fluorescent fixtures with super T8 lamps and low power factor ballasts throughout the facility help to reduce energy consumption by 15%.
