At Issue
Judah Lodge on Mt. Judah is an integral village base facility at Sugarbowl Resort in Norden, California. The need for additional dining/assembly area and improved snowmelt system has prompted an expansion to the existing lodge. The lodge's new expansion adds approximately 10,000 sf of remodeled servery, dining area, and assembly/dining and 5,000 sf of snowmelted area to the existing facility. The cold climate and excessive snow at Donner Summit required tightly designed heating and snowmelt systems to ensure comfort, safety, and ventilation for the expansion. Strategic design of power systems has allowed the re-use of the existing generator system to maintain power to the majority of the building during periods of power outage. Efficient lighting design and use of natural lighting through windows has ensured that energy consumption for lighting will comply with the strict standards of California's Energy Code. Economizer cycles are used for mechanical systems to provide cooling without the use of mechanical refrigeration. This expansion has been designed and is awaiting construction, which is slated for 2005.
