At Issue
The
Montage Hotel at Vista Serena is a world class, five star hotel on the
Baja peninsula in Mexico. The hotel consists of 176 guestrooms, five
presidential suites, two ballrooms, 30,000 square foot luxury spa,
three restaurants with full service kitchens, full on-site laundry
service and over 100 pools. The Baja peninsula provides a unique
environment with extreme temperature swings coupled with a marine
environment with a strong possibility of hurricane events.

BGCE's Work
- BGCE
reviewed the full gamut of options for space cooling and heating,
domestic water heating, pool heating, power distribution and backup
power systems. System options were reviewed with the client and best
practices.
- System selection options were evaluated against system performance,
energy performance, first cost payback and limited available
maintenance.
- BGCE provided drawings and specifications through design development, peer review and hand-off to local engineering firm.
- LEED energy cost modeling and LEED perquisite/point documentation was completed by BGCE.
Montage Resorts has a strong commitment to sustainable development.
This project has been registered for LEED Silver, certification pending.
ENERGY COST SAVINGS BENEFITS
- Solar thermal array capable of providing domestic hot water pre heat function and up to 80% of hotel pool heating loads.

- Energy recovery chillers providing heating water.
- Propane and electrical dual fuel heating water plant to allow electric boilers to operate during low electric costs structures.
- Electric space heating allows best match of load to utility cost rates.
- Cooling towers are confi gured to allow for “free cooling” when outside air temperatures are low.
- Electrical distribution for future photovoltaic arrays.
