Sustainable Design

Beaudin
Ganze (BGCE) prides itself on providing engineered solutions for building
systems that contribute to a structure’s sustainability. The traditional
approach in engineering a structure’s building systems has been to design
a better “machine.”
While BGCE methods are based on proven engineering traditions, the firm’s
approach to sustainable design stems from a creative vision of designing a
better “built environment.” BGCE works toward design solutions
that harness the natural resources and advantages of the local, natural environment
and that employ innovative mechanical systems to complement the built environment.
The results are spaces that are ecologically responsible, healthy, affordable,
resource- and energy-efficient for the present and future occupants.
BGCE engineers’ commitment to sustainable design is evidenced in their
continuous pursuit of education and training in significant developments in
both design and product specification. The firm’s ongoing experience
with energy codes, ASHRAE Standard 90.1, California’s Title 24 and the
LEED program has reinforced our comprehensive understanding of industry standards
and recommendations for developing sound energy and environmental designs.
The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and ASHRAE have recognized
BGCE at both the state and national levels with awards for the firm’s
energy designs and execution of projects with unique site and delivery challenges.
Such projects include the Sundeck Restaurant atop Aspen, which was one of
the first eleven structures to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council
in its pilot Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) program.
BGCE is dedicated to promoting sustainable design as both a viable and desirable
solution.
