Regional Medical Center Celebrates New $7.4M Central Plant

5/20/04 — La Junta, Colorado — Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) celebrated the dedication of its new, $7.4 million central plant last Thursday. This party marked a new chapter in the medical campus' operations and provided an opportunity to thank the many and various people and organizations who came together to make the complex renovation project a reality.

AVRMC CEO, Lynn Crowell, thanked many, including the medical center Board of Directors, for their vision and support in bringing the project - ten years in the making - to fruition. George Brenneman, Facility Management Director, and Dave Echer, Plant Operations Supervisor, were also recognized for their leadership in developing and guiding the project from its inception as an idea to its successful completion as a state-of-the-art central plant. Denis Beaudin, President of NRG Design Build, Inc. and Beaudin Ganze Consulting Engineers, Inc., the design-builder and mechanical/electrical engineering consultant for the project, thanked the project team, including the General Contractor, Bassett Construction of Pueblo; the Architect, C4i Design of Wheat Ridge; the Soils Engineer, CTL Thompson of Pueblo; the Structural Engineer, Monroe & Newell Engineers of Denver; the Mechanical/Plumbing Contractor, Olson Plumbing and Heating of Colorado Springs; the Electrical Contractor, Pueblo Electrics of Pueblo; and the Controls Contractor, Westover of Denver.

The project merged all of the medical campus' facility systems - heating, cooling, emergency power, water, etc. - into one centralized, comprehensive, digitally controlled, energy-efficient system. Ten years old in the making, the project replaced several individual systems - some dating back to the 1950's - that had simply exhausted their useful lives. Centralized controls monitor and modulate systems to achieve the most efficient use of energy resources, provide system reliability and back-up, and maintain occupant comfort. The project was also designed to accommodate future system enhancements, such as co-generation equipment, should the structure of energy rates shift to favor such a system. The project represents a commitment to quality healthcare for the community and the future growth of AVRMC.

BGCE provides mechanical, electrical, technology, lighting, and sustainable design services. The firm specializes in the design of resort, commercial, residential, healthcare, education, recreation, and community facilities throughout the United States from its four offices in Vail, Denver, and Fort Collins, Colorado; and Truckee, California.
